September is National Library Card Sign-up Month. Alpha Park Library will be participating in this national event September 1 through 30. First time card holders may come to the library and present proof of residency in the form of an ID with current address. Library cards for children age 14 and under will require parent signature and ID. New card holders will automatically be placed into a drawing for an exclusive backpack made especially for this event. Ten backpacks will be given away. The drawing will be held on October 1, 2014.

Attention iPad owners or those curious about them: This class is designed to help you get to know your iPad better. We’ll explore the basics, learn how to interact with the device, discover the world of apps, and discuss the new IOS changes. Bring your iPad and let us know what tricks you’ve already discovered. Join us for a night of Cookbooks and Chocolates! We'll discuss the different types of cookbooks available at the library and be entertained by a special speaker. Join us for a book signing and presentation with Leona. She will share her extraordinary experience of writing her first book, Hemphill Towers. Leona’s new book is described as a “quick-paced tale of fine art, wine forgery, and the Russian Mafia, when three friends discover their pursuit of love will require them to expose a crime, thwart a murder, and trust the one thing that has never failed them…their friendship.” Leona will have copies of her book for sale. Join us for Tea, Treats and a Chin Wag as we discuss the different types of DVDs the library offers from the BBC (British Broadcastng Corporation). The BBC is well known for television shows such as “Downton Abbey,” “Doc Martin,” “Dr. Who,” “Call The Midwife,” and “Sherlock.” Come talk about your favorites or discover something new to watch this winter. There will be treats and FANtastic door prizes, including products from your favorite shows. You'll be gobsmacked by all the bits ‘n’ bobs we'll discuss!
