Alpha Park Public Library District, Bartonville, IL

“The Alpha Park Public Library’s mission is to provide progressive and relevant materials and services for the ever-changing, lifelong informational, educational, social, and recreational needs of our various communities. The library is committed to providing excellent customer service in a welcoming environment, and is dedicated to developing partnerships and a sense of community.”

Residents of the Alpha Park Public Library District are proud of their library—both its physical plant and its services. Library staff strives to offer a balanced collection of books, magazines, computers with Internet access, books on CD and tape, large print materials, reference volumes, newspapers, music CDs, DVDs, Playaways, Electronic books, and other electronic sources. We also offer the community extensive programs dedicated to children and teens. Our public meeting rooms are heavily used. Most important of all, we have a staff that is committed to quality library service and is known in the regional library community for providing outstanding customer service.

Active community supporters established Alpha Park Library in 1972. That support continued with the construction of a new facility at the corner of Airport Road and Garfield Avenue in 1985. Ten years later the community backed an addition and remodeling project to increase service, delivery, and access. While the Alpha Park Library is located in Bartonville, it serves most of southwest Peoria County and portions of Fulton County. Other villages within the district include Bellevue, Glasford, Kingston Mines, Mapleton, and Norwood. Our official service population is over 28,000 people.

The Alpha Park Library District sits adjacent to Peoria, in the valley and along the bluffs of the Illinois River. The population of Peoria’s greater metropolitan area is approximately 350,000. Located half way between Chicago and St. Louis, Peoria offers quality medical care, affordable housing, and an array of amenities - regional shopping, the Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Bradley University, Broadway theatre and top entertainment at the Civic Center, Lakeview Museum of Arts & Sciences, a variety of restaurants, and an art/entertainment-focused river front. Sports fans enjoy the Peoria Chiefs (Midwest League Affiliate of the Chicago Cubs), the Peoria Rivermen (American Hockey League), and the Bradley Braves. The area offers all the conveniences of a larger city, but with half the cost and congestion.
